Peace and Social Justice
The parish Mission Ministry is working to address the needs of those less fortunate and in need of assistance. We are working to address these needs both in our community and in areas farther away. We are doing this through our teen mission group, working with the diocesan mission to the Navajo Nation in Arizona, and locally through our Helping Hearts and Hands Ministry.
Our teen mission group is working to encourage teens to put their faith in practice either through local service projects or through summer mission trips to assist those in need in other areas of our country. If are interested in becoming a part of this group or would like to learn more, please contact Ruth Campbell or Georgette Wurster at firstname.lastname@example.org or 815-432651 ext.858.
The diocesan mission to the Navajo Nation is a 13 day annual mission in early June. The mission team works with Our Lady of Fatima Parish in Chinle, Arizona. The team assists the parish doing repair, maintenance, and cleanup work at the parish campus. The team also does home repair work at the homes of the needy living on the Nation. The work covers painting, plumbing and electrical work as well as installing floors, windows and roofing. You do not need any construction skills to be a part of the mission. An open heart and willingness to work and learn is all you need. If you are interested in this mission or would like to learn more please contact Deacon Pat Lombardo at email@example.com or 815-436-2651 ext.477.
The Helping Hearts and Hands is an effort that has grown out of Make a Difference Day into an ongoing year round project to help those in need here in our own community. The work consists of light work such as general clean up, yard work and other tasks in which we can be of assistance. The work is scheduled for the third Saturday of the month. Volunteers can sign up for a date based on their availability. If you would like to participate in this ministry please click on www.SignUpGenius.com/go/10C084AA9AA2DA1FA7-helping/11967087.
