Equipping Job Seekers for Success
The Employment Ministry of St. Mary Immaculate helps prepare job seekers for success. We help them improve their resume, build skills in interviewing and networking and get emotional/spiritual support. And we pass on information about job openings sent to us by a lot of sources including employers.
We are not a job fair; employers don’t come to our meetings. We are open to anyone. Our members represent all ages, work backgrounds and future desires. Dress is casual and there is no cost to attend.
We meet on the 2nd and 4th Tuesday of each month. We’re located at 15629 South Rt. 59 in Plainfield, north of Renwick Road. As you turn into our parking lot, look for the door in the center of the complex with a “B” over the doorway, south of the main church entrance. A reception desk is to the right as you enter and signs will also guide you to our meeting room.
If you are new to job hunting and networking, come early for a special 6:30pm introduction to networking tools like the Handbill and the Elevator Speech. Being early will also give you the opportunity to meet the coaches and to network with other job seekers.
At 7:00pm, on the 2nd Tuesday of the month, we conduct a Networking / Work Session. At that meeting, you can participate in a structured Networking Session to practice skills and expand your network. Or you can meet one-on-one with coaches for a “work session” to improve your resume, or networking tools; practice via a mock interview or to just talk with someone who understands and cares.
At 7:00pm on the 4th Tuesday of the month, our program features a recognized expert on specific topics of interest to job seekers. At the end of the discussion, you can work one-on-one with coaches, or network with others.
It’s always important to bring copies of your resume and handbill to our meetings to exchange with other members and coaches.
Watch the parish bulletin, this parish website or check the Plainfield Patch (http://plainfield.patch.com/) for event information on a specific meeting date’s agenda, speaker and topic.
